What is a Special Enrollment Period?

A Special Enrollment Period is a period of time outside of the Open Enrollment Period during which an individual or household may shop for and enroll in health insurance, or have their eligibility for financial assistance re-determined. Individuals may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if they experience a Life Change Event such as moving, getting married or having a baby.

To see what other events qualify, please see the “What is a Life Change Event?” FAQ.
