DENVER \u2014 <\/strong>Between Nov.1 and Jan. 15, more than 190,000<\/strong> Coloradans enrolled in health coverage for 2016, either in private health insurance purchased through the state health insurance Marketplace or in Medicaid, or Child Health Plan Plus<\/em> (CHP+), according to new data released today by Connect for Health Colorado\u00ae and the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese enrollment figures show strong growth during this open enrollment period,\u201d said Connect for Health Colorado\u00ae CEO Kevin Patterson.\u00a0 \u201cBut we are now only days away from this year\u2019s enrollment deadline for many. I strongly urge everyone who does not have health insurance provided through their employer to act right now to provide financial security for their families and to avoid a penalty that experts estimate will average nearly $1,000 per household. The final deadline for 2016 coverage for many Coloradans is Jan. 31<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since the Nov. 1 beginning of Open Enrollment 142,632<\/strong> people enrolled in private health and dental care coverage through Connect for Health Colorado\u00ae.<\/p>\n

In addition, the coverage gains include 45,100<\/strong> in Medicaid and 2,771<\/strong> in CHP+.<\/p>\n

Open enrollment for this year ends Jan. 31.<\/strong> That will be the last chance for most Coloradans to sign up and protect their family budget with health insurance.<\/p>\n

However, individuals and families who are shopping for new coverage because their health insurance company is no longer offering health plans in their area \u2013 or because they had a policy last year that no longer meets the minimum legal requirements \u2013 will be permitted to enroll in new coverage through Feb. 29<\/strong>\u00a0 through a Special Enrollment Period<\/a>. This includes individuals and families who purchased their 2015 health insurance on or off Connect for Health Colorado\u2019s site.<\/p>\n
